Don't mind me, I'm just playing with my widgets. Empty Don't mind me, I'm just playing with my widgets.

Ok, so things may look slightly different next time you come in, it's ok, they're just widgets. I'm playing around with them to see if I like them, or not.

There's also a new home page called "Portal" which has a different set up of the same kind of widgets. The rest of the widgets outside of the portal will be visible on every page of the forum except the portal page.

Sooo . . .

What do you think? Do you like the widgets? Do you like the portal page? Do you think these are useful or make the forum experience cluttered?

Options:
These widgets could be on the left and/or right side of the forum, and can be moved or displayed in any order
The Portal page is pulling from the Tutorials forum, and can be changed to pull a feed from any forum on PPC

In its current incarnation, I like the widgets on ONLY the portal page. It makes sense on the portal page because that's the hub page where you can quickly glance at new important posts and stats. But on the forum pages, the widgets look squished to me. My username is cropped, and the scrolling Latest topics widget can be distracting when reading the current forum post at hand.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not against widgets on the forum pages. Having quick access to the profile and who's online is pretty cool. For the forum pages only, I would remove Latest topics (since it can be distracting) and Social bookmarking (since there's already several social media buttons on the site and the buttons from that widget aren't specifically for the forum post). With the remaining widgets, I would see if you could widen up the width a bit. The widgets are fine as is on the portal.

Hope that helps. It's good you're experimenting and asking for feedback.

I agree with you for the most part, on I'm not too certain I like the widgets on the forum pages. I made a couple modifications as you suggested, and it looks a little better, but I'm still on the fence.

I wanted to see how you all felt rather than just my personal preferences. I wasn't overly a fan of any of the widgets, but I figured I'll give them a shot and see what you all thought.

Still tinkering with the widgets . . .

I apologize, but I strongly dislike widgets, because they hinder website accessibility.  I use a screen reader called NVDA (Nonvisual Desktop Access), and widgets make it much harder to navigate any site on devices that don't have keyboards and or mice, and sometimes even those that do as well.

Thank you for sharing this with me. I will definitely leave the widgets off the other pages for good. As for the Portal/Home page, they will remain. If you'd like, you could set the forum home page (not portal) as a favorite or bookmark so you can bypass the portal page all together.
