I struggled with this for sometime, and the result is less than perfect!

Click on the edge of the tile that you wish to move.

That was really cool to play with, thanks for sharing!

How long did it take you to put this game together?

Thanks rusnakcreative, it was something I returned to several times trying different approaches. So yes, I have spent hours on it.

Have you thought about taking what you have set up already (working slide tile puzzle engine via animations) and make other puzzles by swapping out the pictures in each tile? What about having an unsolved starting position instead of solved, and then have the ability to click a solve button to move the tiles to a solved state? Dare I ask, would you even think of doing a 4 x 4 grid next?

Wow, nice suggestions. The 4 x 4 might be reasonably achieved as each tile has its own independent animations. The solve button? That sounds quite daunting, but you've got me thinking...

Ah Ha! Reading what rusnakcreative has said above has explained my initial surprise at seeing the solved puzzle as soon as I got into slideshow mode. I expected to a mixed-up picture for me to move the pieces into their correct positions.

I played it by moving the tiles into random places and then had an enjoyable time trying to put them back together again, which I didn't do very easily (in fact I didn't do it in the 10 minutes or so I played it prior to typing this) I hope I would have got there in the end, and for me, the 3 x 3 grid was challenging enough. There must be 'Rubics Cube' type standard solution for tile puzzles - but I don't know what it is!

It was easy enough to find where to click to progress the tile, with that nice little soft 'click' sound effect as it moved. Hours well spent I'd say - thank you.

I really liked this game and it would have been even better if it started from semi-random tile positions. By semi-random I mean start with the solved picture then move pieces around according to the animation rules (working on the assumption that if you moved them there, you can move them back) - then save it and have this as the opening position when you open the game. (Forgive me if you've tried this and it didn't work - I'm in theory rather than practice mode right now).

Thank you for your kind comments, johnr. It is so useful to have outside feedback. I was so absorbed in getting the mechanics correct that it did not occur to me that it does not present itself as a 'puzzle' when you open it up!

I'm thinking now that it might be a satisfying conclusion to have the final ninth tile appear on completion of the puzzle. Then the tiles could merge into a seamless image. Then maybe the image could have some sort of animation! Lol, thank you all for re-firing my interest in this old project!

Love the idea of the final animation.

I downloaded this gif ages ago just because I liked it. I never got round to using it though. If you like the idea of this one zooming in after completion of the puzzle - feel free!

Indeed!

We could use him or her as a PPC emoji to use instead of the usual Very Happy kind of thing.

Like this maybe at 140 pixels width.

Any ideas for a name for him/her?
