TARGET GOLF - New game for a new forum
Fri Aug 25, 2017 5:35 am
Finished this game today. It's made in A4 portrait format.
I haven't published it to my website yet - giving PPC members a first look! Please feel free to play and comment.
Also just posted the video on You Tube.
You can get it to download and play here on my website: TARGET GOLF

Wow John, this looks awesome! I'm still impressed that you can do all of that without macros. I love how you give it a sense of depth which makes it look and feel like a normal golf game. Well done!

Golf: A nearly impossible sport to emulate in PowerPoint, especially without the use of Visual Basic - But you, my friend, have DEFINITELY made it work, and PERFECTLY, I might add!
Keep up the AWESOME WORK!

Thank you.
I'm currently working on a snooker game that has similar challenges to the golf game.
Hope to post it to the forum in the not too distant future.

You're very welcome!
I'm really excited! I've seen Billiards in PowerPoint before, but I have no doubt that YOUR version will be LOADS BETTER!

Very unique and appealing game!
I am so interested in how you made dynamic control.

Thank you Mibo.
It's actually more mechanical than dynamic.
The slides work like this:
Clicking on the golfer in the first position (lining up) takes you to the next slide with the golfer in the second position (club raised). On top of him are eight invisible rectangle hotspots placed on top of each other that each link to one of eight slides with the golfer in the third position and taking the shot. The reactangles disappear in turn every 0.5 seconds as the box on the power bar moves to the right.
So there are five targets, each with eight potential shots to be made. I've tried to make each of the eight shots correspond to the power of the hit, the club and the wind speed and direction.
The flight of the ball is in two separate animations - one going up, and one coming down (as it comes down the size of it reduces). A couple of slides have an extra roll of the ball - and one hits a tree and falls out of it when it's been hit way too hard!
On the basis of this game, I think it's possible to replicate a full game of golf with driving off / fairway shots / shots from the rough / bunker shots / putting etc, all with variables such as club choice, power, wind direction & speed etc - but it will be a HUGE amount of work (at least the way I do it).
Feel free to get back to me if you'd like any more information about this, or any other game of mine.
Finally, I'm also really interested in how your 'Toss!' game works - can you post the game on this forum?

Wow.. your explanation shocked me! I think it can be used in diverse genres of game.
Thanks to you to tell me this great information.
And I really want to post my game. But new members are not allowed to post external links for 7days.

Post a couple more replies, mibo, and I think that should help get you to the next group of users, starting at 5 post count. I'll check the forum settings to see about the 7 day rule. I do like people sharing their work as soon as they come in, however, I need a way to prevent spammers from joining and disrupting the forum. I think after 5 posts should be a good compromise before you can share your games. Thanks for letting me know about the 7 day message!
Edit: The 7 day setting is either off or on, and I cannot adjust how long new users will not be able to post external links. So for the time being, wait a couple more days and we'll be eagerly awaiting to see your games, mibo!

In the meantime Mibo, you could separate the characters of a link from each other with spaces, and instruct viewers to copy the link's text, paste it into their address bars, and then rapidly cycle between pressing "RIGHT" and "DELETE" until the whole link was unspaced.
Furthermore, once they unspaced it, they could copy it aGain and save it in a notepad document, or bookmark a random page and then change its link to that of your game, thusly changing the bookmark's title accordingly as well.
However, the easiest way to get around the "link block" is simply to remove any text that comes before the primary domain name of the site that's hosting your file. So instead of "https://www.dropbox.com/...", just use "dropbox.com/..."! If you feel you must, you can instruct viewers to copy the text into their address bars, but I do think that most folks would easily figure that out. I just do it because it's the nice and right thing to do.

Now this here is a treat. Who would've thought a golf game with dynamic control would be possible using PowerPoint?
By the way, are you able to change the club used? If so, I couldn't get it to work. If not, that's a possibility for more depth in this game, though I'd imagine that'd take a huge amount of development time without macros.

Apologies Tim, I've only just seen your post on this.
At the start of the project I attempted to have the choices of the power of the hit, and a club choice, and a direction of hit choice to match distance and wind conditions. But it was just too much for this game where each target has eight slides based on power choice alone. That's why I made the club choice a 'given'.
I do think however that there's a possibility of making a one-hole game with this number of options, where you hit the ball, it lands somewhere depending on your choices, then you play the ball again from there until you get to the green and putt out. (One hole will be enough of a challenge I think).
Something for the future maybe!

Hi, John R. Sorry I haven't posted in a while.
Mind If I use your target darts as a base for a mini game in one of my projects?

Hi JoeyTritten,
Sure, no problem as long as you can let me see what you do with it, and if possible, show where it came from somewhere in the project. Look forward to seeing how you use it.
