Scrolling 3D backgrounds
Wed Dec 12, 2018 11:01 am
I was always fascinated by the simplicity of 2D graphics in games with a 3D viewing impact by scrolling 2D flat backgrounds at different speeds relatively to each other. Let's say there are 3 backgrounds. The furthest scrolls the slowest. The middle scrolls slightly faster and the front scrolls the fastest. All relatively to the moving object in the fore-front. The backgrounds are generated randomly meaning they're unique each time. Usually they're some undepicted mountain peaks and slopes generated with straight lines. I'd love to be able to have something like that in PPT and just look at the scrolling background - never mind the game! Maybe Rusnak can help with VBA, if it's needed at all?

Have you seen this thread? https://powerpointcreative.forumotion.com/t144-make-a-rolling-road-background
This would be a great start for you. After you master this, then you can play around with different layers at different speeds.
As for adding VBA to it, there is a possibility to add a randomize feature with it, but I am still unfamiliar with coding working with animations. The last few times I tried to blend the two together, it causes all the animations on the slide reset.

Try this out, it was one of my earlier games before I learned VBA. If you get through the 5 levels, there is a bonus level that gives a new spin on how Frogger can be played.

Back on the theme of multi-level scrolling backgrounds, please check out this animation that I did today and posted on You Tube too.

Mike - I'm really impressed with the frogger game especially since it's done in PPT.
Chapeau!

John - I saw your railroad-ride video. It's great! I posted a comment there.
I also posted a link in Animations to my PPT attempt at a scrolling background. I wanted to add something more, like an animal or bird, boat, cowboy, whatever but don't know how to.

Thanks for your kind words Yahretzky.
With regard to adding something, for my animation I googled things like 'flying bird animated gif' and 'running bear'. After downloading and saving, it was just a matter of inserting (Insert > Picture) and re-sizing, then positioning just outside the slide and animating with a custom motion path and setting an appropriate duration.
It's also possible to use ordinary (non-animated) images that can move around the slide in front of, or coming out from behind of, other objects.
