Have you seen any of the RPG games done in Excel? Here's one I just found: http://www.frayn.net/games/ddxl/index.html
The VBA code is unlocked so you can check out everything in there that makes the game work. You could use some of the VBA here and apply it to PowerPoint.
I am in awe in how in depth this one is set up. I may have to further investigate this one and maybe take some pointers for future projects.

That's amazing! I've also heard that the Legend of Zelda has been recreated in Excel. I was planning to keep my games VBA-free but I guess using VBA may be inevitable. Thank you for the recommendation!

If you're looking to build an RPG without using VBA . . . more power to you, but I foresee you getting yourself into a world of pain! With VBA, you can have as many variables as you may need to keep track of all your stats and such.

I tried running the afore mentioned Excel game DungeonDelve but choosing New Game returns an error code 13. Too bad.

Yahretzky, have you ran any excel or powerpoint files with macros before? First thing's first, make sure the excel file has been unzipped from the folder (don't run it while it's inside the zip folder, even though it will open.) Then, make sure you open this in Excel, and not any other program. Next, make sure you allow macros and enable editing when prompted. There will usually be a yellow bar at the top of the screen that will ask you. If you trust the file, then click allow macros and enable edits. The game should be working fine by now.

Hi guys, sorry to be a pain-in-the-backside Admin type, but (Mike) could you move this conversation out of the Welcome Wagon and into a games thread or somewhere more suitable? Thanks!
