Collaborative-project challenge Empty Collaborative-project challenge

Mon Mar 14, 2022 9:21 pm
So I don't know how well this would fare out in-practice, but I had an idea for PPC Challenge where we relay a ppt file from one member to another, and every time someone receive the file, they must add some substance to that ppt before relaying it to the next person. It will be a collaborative process that'll probably ended up being a crappy what-intarnation abomination of a game, but it'll be a fun-to-go-through kind of stuff.

Maybe set up some vague story prompt in the beginning, then people can either add a cutscene-esque slide or a game-oriented slide in it.

What do you guys think?

It's an interesting idea. Let's see how may members are interested in doing this.

Those members who want to participate in this, please do a Quick Reply with 'I'M IN!"

Hypela, we'll leave it to you to think up the vague story prompt and make the first slide when we have enough participants.

Just to get things started: I'M IN!

How would we send a file from one person to the next?  I didn't know this forum was capable of letting people upload directly-to it.

It would have to be done in the same way that it is now. Upload to Dropbox (or similar) post the link here, then the next person downloads it, adds their contribution, then uploads / links in the same way.

We will have to establish the running order so that just one person works on it at a time.

Edit: It might be possible to do it by email as long as the file size did not get too big.

So since the usual amount of regular visitors are only like 5 or so, how much would we need until its 'enough'?

Btw, I'm proposing the running order to be a first-come-first-serve basis. As soon as the latest build of the game is up, the first person to reply will claim the right to update it within a limited time set. If they hadn't posted an update regarding the next game's build within said time limit, someone else can claim and voided the previous claimer. In theory, this should ensure continuous fluctuation of the game's development progress. But we'll never know until the challenge actually commences.

I'm not sure how many will be enough.

We have 3 at the moment with Jade as a possible I suppose, which will make 4.

Rusnakcreative might join, but I doubt if Jarek will as he has other things going on at the moment and I'm not sure if it's his kind of thing anyway (although I might be wrong).

Unfortunately, I was just curious as to the possible workings of the file-sharing-system.  However, although I won't be participating this time, I will definitely check-out the final ProDuct.  I'm not a very-timely person, so you wouldn't be able to trust me to get things done by a specific deadline.  That, in-fact, is why my game-company has already officially dropped the use of release-dates and -windows as of late.

Is this what you are thinking of?

If so, it's a really good idea. There's a level 2 version as well

How do you want to divide up the work?

If you have never made randomly landing dice before, I suggest you give it a try. It can be useful for so many different games.

No... I meant bump as in 'bump the thread'.

Silly!

Should we just start doing this as a long-term project then? I'm thinking of something like a community minigame or some sort, like 'continue the story' game, but powerpoint presentation about game and animation. I'd really love to start already, lol.

Oh! Silly me indeed! It's not an expression I've come across before. I've only been doing forums like this for 5yrs or so, and I am getting very very old!!

I'm going to have a go at the Bump game anyway I think!

Ok...On your marks...Get set...Go!
