Spinner help
Thu Nov 28, 2024 12:43 am
Hi there, I make games for teachers to use with their students to review for tests and assessments. Many of my games are inspired by TV game shows and classic board games. Some of my game incorporate a spinner to add a randomizing component to it. Often times, I get feedback about how my spinners don't seem to work, in terms of they always just land on the same spot. I recommend people to use the PowerPoint program and not the web based Office 365, but some still report back that they have this issue.
Here is a link to just one slide which has one of these spinners if anyone wants to check it out. If you any ideas about what this issue is I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Ryan in California

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for sight of this. I tested it on PPT, and it seemed to work as expected. Are people trying it on Google Slides, or PPT? Google might be the problem.
With this method of stopping the spinner, sometimes, if someone clicks to a rhythm, say every three seconds, the star animation might stop at the same place. However, with the speed of this animation, that could be unlikely, although if you have slower ones it might be.
If you want to try a different way of making a spinner, this might help Spinner. This one has the arrow slowing down before stopping, which should be able to work with your square motion path for your star too.

Have you tried this awesome spinner that is built for PowerPoint's little-known Kiosk Mode?
1. Open PowerPoint itself.
2. Browse to and load this "New Reward Roller 2024 Map"-file.
3. Hover over the post-wheel black slides with your mouse, and follow the easy instructions in their title--tool-tips.
4. Once all your gameplay-data is pasted in, save, and then run your slide-show. You, will be, amazed!
Just remember: this engine uses Kiosk Mode, so you'll need hyperlinks back to the wheel, or otherwise, elsewhere in your game's data (for example, to a duplicate wheel-set past the end of your final pasted slides. To add another wheel, just either re-download the base file, or duplicate it before making your changes.
