2.5D motion comics (+haptics?) Empty Re: 2.5D motion comics (+haptics?)

Hi Angie,

Welcome to the PPC forum!!

I have attached a You Tube video of some 2.5D animations. I don't know if they can all be replicated on PPT but... the type of animation shown in the frontier fort battle scene I'm pretty sure can be.

Off the top of my head: If you have a background that extends beyond the slide size and some isolated characters, you could use motion paths and grow/shrink animations to get a 'Ken Burns' effect to the background while your characters move in and out as you want.

Getting individual limb / head movements is also possible as long as you have an isolated torso with isolated limbs / head to attach them to.

Check out the game posted by member Joey Tritten, Furpocolypse to see an 'out-there' comic-type approach using PPT.

We'd love to see any examples of the PPT projects you are working on.

(I'll respond to your question about my candle / hourglass animations separately)

Once again, welcome. Glad to have you aboard!

Yes, you should be able to make 2.5 D animations in PowerPoint. It'll be mostly trial and error with timing and animations to get that effect to work just right. I'm not sure if you would call this 2.5 D, but I did submit some animation in a PPC challenge: Download here. The challenge was looping backgrounds, and I added some branches on the top most layers to move a little faster than the background. I look forward to see what you can create in PowerPoint. If you'd like, feel free to share your other creative works and animations in the Creative Outlets section of the Forum.

Yes, I remember that challenge.

After it, I had a go at doing an animation with a view from inside a train where the foreground, mid-ground, and background scroll past at different speeds, with a few added animal gifs:

(Might be of interest Angie)

2.5D motion comics (+haptics?) Empty 2.5D motion comics (+haptics?)

Ok, thank you!  I can see that 2.5 D can be created in PP and I'm so happy about that.

Now I'm still wondering if I can add haptic feedback (3D touch) to PP presentations on a handheld device? Of course I also wonder if I can make them interactive (allowing the user to touch something to ignite the pre-created animation and vibration).

Any ideas for how to implement this?  I want to create an interactive animated comic book-- but not a full-on animation.

Thanks!

Hi Angie,

You will see that I've moved a lot of this thread as a new topic in the Animations section as we were moving beyond the scope of the 'Welcome Wagon'.

The idea of a PPT comic reminded me of the old 'Mighty Thor' cartoons (re-runs of which my son used to watch incessantly when he was young - to the point that the theme tune being played over and over again would drive me insane!!)

A lot of this kind of animation I think could be made in PPT. Interactivity like story-line choices could also be included. (What kind of interactivity have you got in mind?) As for haptics, I don't know. I had to Google it! Even if you can't make the device vibrate, you could still produce the vibration's sound 'On Click' - or rather 'On Tap'.

I think that a PPT based comic could work on a mobile device as long as the animations and interactivity are quite simple. I know that some of my simpler games work on mobile devices, but the more complex ones don't (or bits of them don't).

If you have got PPT on your device I would suggest checking out what's feasible and what's not. You could try downloading some games from my website (or any other game source) to experiment with.

Please keep us informed as to how you are getting on with this fascinating project of yours.

Me again!

I just realised that I have an animated / interactive story that I posted to the forum some time ago.

Yoy can check it out here: CABIN FEVER

This may or may not be the kind of thing you are looking to do but you might find it of interest.

You are 100% correct. The entire video can be duplicated in PPT. I am actually utilizing animations like these in my upcoming RPG game.

I have experience making dynamic comics like you seek. I am actually in the process of making them for a couple of groups as we speak. Feel free to message me on DM me Elijah2022#2870 on Discord and we can discuss.
