FURPOCOLYPSE EP 1

FURPOCOLYPSE EP 1 (The Revolt)
I’m really excited to show you a project I been working on for the past 3-4 years. It has been through several forms and there were times where I almost gave up but I managed to push the limits of PowerPoint and what it can be used to tell a story. I hope you enjoy this premiere episode of something I’m very proud of. Made by me (Joey Tritten) and Jon Blow. FURPOCOLYPSE: an action-packed blood-soaked adventure of such epic proportions never before seen in any PowerPoint slideshow... UNTIL NOW!
Sprawled over an episodic series, it is set in a bleak post-apocalyptic landscape ruled by fear and ruthlessness. It’s weird inhabitants, some trying to live their lives whilst trying to ignore the horrors of the aftermath of the devastation, others violent lunatics with no explanation for their actions, and the rest.... Either brigands, tyrants, or the dead. A place we would call heck they call… EARTH!
After a night of binge drinking at the 1987 Christmas party, Fox Mange wakes up several decades into the bleak future, transformed into an andromorphic fox and being taken captive to a base in Northwest Wales controlled by the anti-fandom militia ‘The Human Resistance’. All seems lost, until a disastrous error brings Mange to a desperate race to freedom at any cost!
With multiple paths to take, how far are you willing to go for escape?

OMG!
Firstly, let me say that the storyline is bonkers and the graphic images are appallingly bad.
Secondly let me say that I think it's a masterpiece of a bonkers storyline and appallingly bad graphics along with brilliant vocal and audio effects. I love it.
The game has not been made in 'Kiosk' mode which means that I was able to get nearly to the end by right-clicking on the screen after I had been killed (which I was frequently) and hitting 'Previous' enough times to take me back and start the fight again. I think I would have got frustrated if it was in Kiosk mode and I would have had to start from the very beginning after each death - that would have been frustrating.
I was quite happy watching the story unfold as an animation at the beginning. When I realised I had to 'do something', i.e. click something quickly, I knew I was in trouble as I'm not a very quick clicker (it's me age mate). As the game progressed I really liked having the options for taking different courses of action. I've got to play it again and try out each one.
Oh, just quickly, for our non-UK members: 'FAG' = 'CIGARETTE' - NOT A DEROGATORY NAME FOR A GAY PERSON and a 'CHAV' is a perjorative epithet used in Britain to describe a particular stereotype of anti-social youth dressed in sportswear. (Thank you Wikipedia). And while I'm in educational mode, did you know that the only true Britons left in Britain now are the Welsh. The rest of us are descendents of immigrants from mainland Europe.
That's another thing I need to do with this game - put the Welsh speech through Google translator.
Thank you Joey. What a weird, wonderful and blood-splattered start to 2018!

The screenshots do not do justice to this game. They primarily show the graphics, which are indeed appallingly bad, but somehow, with the nonsensical storyline and how often I laughed at what I've seen so far, I feel like that actually contributed to the experience.
Man, this game's reaction time frames are harsh! I can't imagine how anyone would survive each reaction challenge on the first try. Thankfully, it's possible to rewind slides since it's not made in kiosk mode.
Haven't finished the episode yet since it's fairly lengthy, but by no means have I grown tired of the game. Advice for future players is, don't take this game seriously. You'll probably die a lot, but it's worth it so you can see the over-the-top animations. This is hilarious entertainment at its finest, as long as you're able to handle it.

Have yet to try this, but it sounds this games redeeming quality is the storyline. I whole heartedly agree that if you're going to make a game follow a story, focus more on the story itself and then work your experience around it. If you focus on the graphics or features and have a weak story, the game wouldn't be perceived as fun. Same goes witch movies, I'm sure you've seen some visually impressive movies out there that just look amazing, but hard to watch because there isn't much of a compelling story.
I can't wait to see this game soon and I'll chime in on what I think.

Ok, finally sat down and gave this thing a go . . .
Holy stuff that was entertaining! From start to finish, and even in the credits, I was entertained by the humor and sheer randomness of what's going on.
As far as the game goes, I'd say A for effort but it needs more work. The timing to react to certain events is incredibly short. Thankfully I was able to advance to the next slide even though I got killed too many times to count, lol. I can't remember if there were any warnings about quick action events earlier on, but did notice them later on and was thankful for them! I'm also glad that wasn't the only "game" in this adventure, and there were other gaming components in there to liven things up. The mouse maze game was a nice touch, although nearly impossible to complete!
It looks like this was put together by you and several of your friends, which is great to see a large group effort in here! What part or parts did you put together, Joey?
Hopefully Aquafresh will help fund episode 2!

Thanks for the review, I really do appreciate your criticism and I will keep them in mind for the more story and atmosphere-focused Episode 2.rusnakcreative wrote:Ok, finally sat down and gave this thing a go . . .

As for the development of Ep 1, I mostly created it on my own. I was helped by Jon Blow in some parts (for example he did the dialogue in the scene with the confrontation with the hipsters which I edited some of the lines).
This whole game took a long time to make and as such a LOT was cut! If you want me to go into further detail I'll do it, but for the time being let's say that some of the cut content involved (A sort of explanation to how Mange ended up in the desert (hopefully, I'll add to EP2), a playable short second plot where you play as a deranged furry fanatic, cannibalistic furry PETA activists, a furry-robot Michael Jackson working with PETA, a bar fight, and the aftermath to the human resistance riots which results in the escapes fleeing in horror, an over the top castration scene in the PETA activists basement, and ghostly masked apparitions to name a few).
I'm pretty much a normal guy with a boring life as most people are and not a powerful being of light, so I have ZERO idea when Ep 2 will be finished, but I will make some demos.

Are you sure about that last sentence? Surely only a powerful being of light could come up with such weird and wonderful strorylines! (And here's me making Snap!).

Hey guys. I've got some pretty drastic news about Furpocolypse 2. I'm changing the game engine from PowerPoint to RPGMaker VX ace for a multitude of reasons: first off
a lot of my inspiration for the aesthetics of Ep 2 have been drawn a lot from the many bizarre RPGMaker games (Middens, Gingiva, Space Funeral, LISA, etc.) so it makes a lot more sense to for it to be an RPG as well. Secondly I want to use a more advanced engine to make it. This in no way means I'm done with PowerPoint though and I may still occasionally realease some titles and partake in some community things as well.
I still have the original unfinished PowerPoint version of Furpocolypse 2 and If you would like me to release it or some deleted moments from FP, please let me know.
If you'd like some screenshots of the RPG as well let me know also.
As always, have a nice day.

Hey Joey,
I had a look at some RPGMaker VX ace games and tutorials on You Tube and it looks really interesting. I can see how would suit a game like Furpocolypse.
It would be great if you could post some snippets of FP2 here, and I'd be keen to see some screenshots (or even You Tube vids?) of what you do on RPGMaker. Anything you can post here will be welcome.
Good luck with your new venture and keep in touch!

Great choice switching to RPG Maker. I've played various RPG Maker games before, and I can definitely see Furpocolypse 2 fitting well with this. Looking forward to the extra depth and strategy the new engine provides.

Bit of an update: I've decided not to continue using RPGMakerVxAce to make FP 2. And I'd like to return to PowerPoint. (I'm not fussed on if it gets noticed).TimsSlideshowGames wrote:Great choice switching to RPG Maker. Wow! That's some conclusion to reach about going back to PowerPoint. It would be great if you could let us know the reasons for this, but if you don't fancy doing so, just feel free to post anything about latest developments.
Welcome back!
